Abstract

This study explores the common grammatical errors made by Azerbaijani learners of English, with particular attention to the impact of Azerbaijani language structures and learning environments on these errors. Drawing on participant observations, interviews, textual analysis, and surveys, the research uncovers prevalent difficulties in English tense usage, article application, and pronunciation of diphthongs and triphthongs. The analysis reveals these errors often stem from interference due to the grammatical structure of Azerbaijani, a lack of equivalent grammatical rules (as with English articles), and limited exposure to English outside the classroom. The study also presents an evolution of these errors in correlation with learners' increasing English proficiency. Based on the findings, several teaching strategies are proposed to address these common errors, focusing on classroom methods, practice exercises, and enhancing exposure to English. The paper concludes with recommendations for further research in the domain.
