Toxic Effect of Thyroid Hormones on the Functional State of the Liver
Keywords:

Liver pathology in hyperthyroidism in most cases is limited to asymptomatic changes in laboratory parameters and much less often becomes clinically manifested. There are three clinical variants of liver damage in patients with hyperthyroidism: drug-induced hepatitis that develops in response to taking thyreostatics (mainly propylthiouracil), concomitant autoimmune liver diseases (autoimmune hepatitis, primary biliary cirrhosis) and hepatopathy as a direct manifestation of thyrotoxicosis (thyrotoxic hepatitis). Thyrotoxic hepatitis is rare and difficult to diagnose. The variety of etiological factors of liver damage in hyperthyroidism, the universality of the clinic and the lack of specific histological markers make it difficult to establish the correct diagnosis.
