Mentoring and Academic Staff Job Productivity in Tertiary Institutions in Delta State, Nigeria

This study examined the relationship between mentoring and academic staff job productivity in tertiary institutions in Delta State, Nigeria. Utilizing a correlational ex-post facto research design, the study sampled 330 academic staff across 10 tertiary institutions using stratified sampling techniques. Two validated instruments were used to gather data: the Mentoring in Tertiary Institutions Scale (MTIS) and the Academic Staff Job Productivity Scale (ASJPS). Findings revealed a high level of job productivity among academic staff, particularly in teaching, research, supervision, and community service. Furthermore, there was a significant relationship between collaborative curriculum alignment mentoring and academic staff productivity. The study concluded that mentoring programs significantly enhance academic staff performance and recommended strengthening formal mentoring programs to boost productivity in teaching, research, and community service.
