Importance of Teaching of Ethical and Values Education in Nigerian Schools

Abstract

This study aims to explore the benefits of ethical and value education in Nigerian schools. By examining various educational systems and policies, this paper recommends implementing ethical and value education in schools in Nigeria can result in numerous positive outcomes. These potential benefits include; moral development, decision making, character development social skills development, leadership development, community service provision, career development, improvement in academic performance and curtain of corruption. Additionally, the incorporation of ethical and value education can promote critical thinking skills and foster a sense of social responsibility among students. Through an analysis of relevant literature and case studies which were only on secondary data, this study brings attention to the significance of ethical and value education in the Nigerian education system and makes recommendations for its successful implementation by the government and stakeholders in education.
